Evening Prayer for March 11
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
Jesus wept.
Today’s takeaway: Jesus wept and suffered as we do, so He is a merciful helper in your sorrow.
A man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief
We have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities
It became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered
I was not rebellious, neither turned away back. I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.
Behold how he loved him!
He took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
Before you pray
Who around you is grieving, and how could you weep with them this week?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, at Lazarus's grave You wept, and the people said, See how He loved him. You are not a High Priest who cannot be touched by what I feel. You learned obedience through what You suffered. Tonight I bring You my sorrows and the sorrows of the people I love. Weep with us, and comfort us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
