Evening Prayer for June 12

About 2–3 minutes · 6 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

We, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness

Today’s takeaway: Count yourself dead to sin and alive to God, and walk in the new life He gives.

Put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And … put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

As Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.

Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. … but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

Before you pray

What sin did you give in to today because you forgot you are dead to it?

Prayer

Father, my old self was crucified with Christ, so that I would no longer be a slave to sin. Help me count myself dead to sin and alive to You in Christ Jesus. Tonight I confess where I forgot that today. Tomorrow, let me offer every part of myself to You for righteousness, and walk in newness of life. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
