Evening Prayer for June 1
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
Emmanuel, … God with us.
Today’s takeaway: In Jesus, God came to live among us, and like Thomas you can call Him Lord and God.
Will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee
The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh
Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds
The first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled … came Jesus and stood in the midst, … Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
After eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then … to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas … My Lord and my God.
Unto us a son is given: … The mighty God
Before you pray
What would you do differently tomorrow if you remembered that God is with you?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, You are Emmanuel, God with us. You came through locked doors to Your frightened disciples and showed them Your hands. There are locked doors in my heart tonight, fears I keep to myself. Come in anyway. With Thomas I say, My Lord and my God. Let me sleep knowing You are with me in this house. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
