Evening Prayer for January 9
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
One thing is needful
Today’s takeaway: Only one thing truly satisfies the soul, and that is time spent with God.
There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us. Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.
As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is
I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
Lord, evermore give us this bread.
Mary, … sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.
One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
Before you pray
What pulled you away from the one needful thing today?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, only one thing is needful, and Mary chose it by sitting at Your feet. I chose many other things today. My soul still thirsts for You. You are the bread of life. Evermore give me this bread. The one thing I desire is to dwell with You and see Your beauty. Let me rest at Your feet tonight. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
