Evening Prayer for January 3

About 2–3 minutes · 6 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? … Lord, that I may receive my sight.

Today’s takeaway: Ask God to open your eyes to understand His Word and all He has given you.

Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.

Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures

The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, … shall teach you all things

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights

The God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, … give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power

Before you pray

What do you most need God to open your eyes to see?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You asked the blind man what he wanted, and he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. That is my request tonight too. Open my eyes to see wonderful things in Your Word. Let Your Spirit teach me. Every good gift comes from above, and understanding is one of them. I rest in Your light. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
