Evening Prayer for January 24

About 2–3 minutes · 8 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

The choice vine

Today’s takeaway: Stay joined to Jesus, the true vine, and your life will bear His fruit.

My wellbeloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill: And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, … and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.

Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?

The works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness

Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: … But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

Abide in me, and I in you.

Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

Before you pray

What fruit of the Spirit did you see in yourself today, and what was missing?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You are the true vine, and Your Father is the gardener. He planted His people as a choice vine and looked for good fruit. The works of the flesh showed up in me today; forgive me. Grow the fruit of Your Spirit in me instead: love, joy, peace, patience. Prune what needs pruning while I rest. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
