Evening Prayer for January 22

About 2–3 minutes · 12 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.

Today’s takeaway: When your mind is crowded and overwhelmed, bring every thought to God and rest in His grace.

When my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

O LORD, I am oppressed; undertake for me.

Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee

I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, … and it shall be given him.

Who is sufficient for these things?

I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing

My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.

Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.

Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole.

My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; … When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.

Before you pray

What thoughts are crowding your mind as you lie down?

Prayer

Lord, my mind is crowded tonight. The unfinished work, the conversation I keep replaying, the choice I do not know how to make: I lay each one down before You. I am not sufficient for these things, but Your grace is. Be my Rock while I sleep, and let me remember You in the night watches instead of my worries. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
