Evening Prayer for January 20

About 2–3 minutes · 12 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

The LORD’S portion is his people

Today’s takeaway: You belong to God, bought with a great price, so rest tonight as His own treasure.

Ye are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s.

I am my beloved’s, and his desire is toward me. … I am my beloved’s, and his desire is toward me.

The Son of God, … loved me, and gave himself for me.

Ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

The LORD hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be unto him a people of inheritance, as ye are this day.

Ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.

Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

A spiritual house, an holy priesthood

They shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels

All mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.

The glory of his inheritance in the saints

Before you pray

How does it change your evening to know you belong to God?

Prayer

LORD, Your portion is Your people. I am Yours, and I am Christ's. The Son of God loved me and gave Himself for me. I am bought with a price and not my own. You brought me out of the iron furnace to be Your own. Tonight I rest as someone who belongs to You, not to my worries. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
