Evening Prayer for February 20
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
The day of temptation in the wilderness
Today’s takeaway: Jesus was tempted too, so He knows how to help you when you are tempted.
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin
Lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.
Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost … was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.
He himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.
Simon, Simon, … Satan hath desired to have you, that he … sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not
Before you pray
What temptation did you face today, and how did God help?
Prayer
Lord, You do not tempt anyone; my own desires draw me away. Israel tested You in the wilderness, and I have too. Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness and was tempted, yet without sin. Because He suffered being tempted, He is able to help me. Jesus prays for me that my faith will not fail. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
