Evening Prayer for February 16
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
We that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened
Today’s takeaway: We groan under burdens now, but one day all that is mortal will put on immortality.
Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.
Mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.
O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
The whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves … which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, … groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
Now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations
Shortly I must put off this my tabernacle
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
Before you pray
What burden are you groaning under tonight?
Prayer
Lord, in this body I groan, being burdened. All my desire is before You, and my groaning is not hidden from You. My sins feel heavy. Who will deliver me? Thanks be to You, through Jesus Christ. All creation groans, waiting, and I wait too for the redemption of my body. Carry me tonight. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
