Evening Prayer for December 5
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
By strength shall no man prevail.
Today’s takeaway: Victory does not come by human strength but by God, who is strong in your weakness.
Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, … So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone
There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.
Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy
Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.
Glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
Before you pray
When did you lean on your own strength today?
Prayer
LORD, no one prevails by strength alone. David faced Goliath in Your name, and You gave the victory. I faced some giants today and did not always trust You. Tomorrow let me face them in Your name. I glory in my weakness, so that Christ's power rests on me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
