Evening Prayer for August 24

About 2–3 minutes · 8 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day

Today’s takeaway: Work diligently for God while it is day, because the harvest is ready now.

The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

He that watereth shall be watered

My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

The kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard. And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season

Occupy till I come.

I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You said You must work the works of Him who sent You while it is day. The sluggard desires and has nothing, but the diligent are satisfied. Whoever waters will himself be watered. The fields are already white for harvest. You have told me to do business until You come. Where I was lazy today, forgive me. By Your grace, let me labor tomorrow. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
