Evening Prayer for August 15
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her.
Today’s takeaway: God calls you apart to rest with Him and to speak comfort to your heart.
Come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
Jesus … that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.
Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Before you pray
When did you last get away with the Lord and rest?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, You told Your weary disciples to come apart to a quiet place and rest a while. I need that tonight. You speak comfortably to Your people in the wilderness. You suffered outside the gate to make me holy, and You call me to come out from what defiles. You are my Shepherd. Make me lie down in green pastures and restore my soul. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
