Evening Prayer for August 14

About 2–3 minutes · 4 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

He hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure

Today’s takeaway: God's covenant is sure, and He works all things together for the good of those who love Him.

I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will

We know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, … Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Before you pray

What promise of God's covenant can you rest on tonight?

Prayer

Faithful God, like David I can say that You have made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things and sure. You chose me in Christ before the foundation of the world. You know whom You foreknew, and You will finish what You began. All things work together for good. I know whom I have believed. I rest in Your covenant tonight. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
