Evening Prayer for April 30
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding
Today’s takeaway: Be slow to anger and patient with others, because God has been so patient with you.
The LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Be ye … followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
This is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. … if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. … suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps
Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously
Be ye angry, and sin not
Before you pray
Did anger have too much say in you today?
Prayer
LORD God, You are merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in goodness and truth. You have been patient with me, not wanting anyone to perish. Make me patient like You. Where I was angry today, show me whether I sinned. Help me follow Jesus, who did not strike back when He was insulted. Do not let the sun go down on my anger tonight. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
