Evening Prayer for April 27
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
A new name
Today’s takeaway: Those who bear Christ's name are called to live in a way that honors Him.
The disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
They that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
Be ye … followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints
Now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light
Before you pray
What did you do today that honored the name of Christ, or dishonored it?
Prayer
Father, I carry the name of Christ, just as the disciples in Antioch were first called Christians. Everyone who names that name should turn from what is wrong. I was bought with a price, so let me glorify You in my body and spirit. I will boast only in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Tomorrow, help me walk in love as Your dear child. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
