Evening Prayer for April 15

About 2–3 minutes · 7 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

Seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not

Today’s takeaway: Do not chase great things for yourself, but learn contentment from the humble Jesus.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

He that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

Christ … suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps

Godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

Before you pray

What were you striving for today that you could let go of?

Prayer

Father, You ask me whether I am seeking great things for myself, and You tell me not to. Your Son was meek and lowly in heart, and He emptied Himself to become a servant. Teach me that godliness with contentment is great gain. I brought nothing into this world, and I will carry nothing out. Help me learn to be content in whatever state I am. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
