Evening Prayer for April 10

About 2–3 minutes · 6 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

All that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

Today’s takeaway: Following Jesus may cost you the world's approval, just as it cost Him.

I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.

Whosoever … will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. … The servant is not greater than his lord.

I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

Before you pray

Did following Jesus cost you anything today, and was it worth it?

Prayer

Holy Father, Jesus told us the world would hate us because it hated Him first. Tonight I bring You the ways I felt that today, and the ways I tried to avoid it by fitting in. I am not of this world, just as He is not. Keep me loyal to Him, and give me love for those who oppose me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
