Your King Comes Lowly

A evening prayer for Palm Sunday (the Sunday before Easter). In the app it replaces the day’s readings automatically.

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

Today’s takeaway: Jesus came as a gentle King riding on a donkey, bringing salvation rather than force.

Before you pray

What kind of King did you expect Jesus to be, and what kind is He?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You came into Jerusalem as a King, but riding on a donkey, not a warhorse. You came to save, not to crush. As Holy Week begins, walk into my heart the same way, gently and humbly. I bow to the lowly King tonight. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
