Evening Prayer for September 18

About 2–3 minutes · 9 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

Wherefore he called the name thereof En-hakkore

Today’s takeaway: God gives His Spirit freely to those who ask, and He refreshes the thirsty soul.

If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

This spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive

Prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

If ye … being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find

Because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

Ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Before you pray

What do you need to ask God to pour out on you tonight?

Prayer

Father, Samson was dying of thirst, and You opened a spring for him. Jesus said that if we knew the gift of God, we would ask, and He would give living water. You give the Holy Spirit to those who ask. I am running dry tonight, so I ask. Fill me again. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
