Evening Prayer for October 24
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them
Today’s takeaway: Only God can satisfy a thirsty heart, and He never turns away anyone who comes.
There be many that say, Who will shew us any good?
What hath man of all his labour, and of the vexation of his heart, wherein he hath laboured under the sun? For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night.
All is vanity and vexation of spirit.
They have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
I will pour water upon him that is thirsty
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is
Before you pray
What have you been seeking satisfaction in apart from God?
Prayer
O God, many ask who will show them any good. I have tried to find it in my work and found only weariness. Your people forsook the fountain of living waters for broken cisterns, and I have too. But You will never cast out anyone who comes. My soul thirsts for You tonight. Fill me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
