Evening Prayer for November 14

About 2–3 minutes · 7 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

How wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?

Today’s takeaway: When you face death or deep trouble, Jesus goes through the waters with you.

For Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest

The priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.

We see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee

Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Before you pray

What swelling river are you facing, and who is standing in it for you?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, when Jordan overflowed its banks, the priests carrying the ark stood firm until all Israel crossed. You have gone into the deepest waters before me. Something in my life feels like it is overflowing its banks tonight. Stand in the middle of it with me, and bring me safely across. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
