Evening Prayer for November 12
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
Is it well with thee? … And she answered, It is well.
Today’s takeaway: Even when troubled on every side, you are not forsaken, and your inner life is renewed daily.
We having the same spirit of faith
As chastened, and not killed; As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.
We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
Which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
Before you pray
If someone asked tonight whether it is well with your soul, what would you say?
Prayer
Lord, the Shunammite woman had just lost her son, yet when she was asked if it was well, she said, It is well. Give me that faith. I am troubled on every side, but not distressed; perplexed, but not in despair. My outward self may wear down, but my inner self is renewed day by day. I look at what is eternal. It is well. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
