Evening Prayer for November 1
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor
Today’s takeaway: Jesus is the Wonderful Counselor, so ask Him for wisdom rather than leaning on your own.
The spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD
Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?
Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man. O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart. Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.
Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.
The LORD of hosts, … is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in working.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Before you pray
What decision do you need God's wisdom for?
Prayer
LORD of hosts, You are wonderful in counsel and excellent in working. Jesus is the Wonderful Counselor, and the Spirit of wisdom and understanding rests on Him. Wisdom calls out to the simple. I lack wisdom tonight, so I ask You, and You give generously. I trust You with all my heart and do not lean on my own understanding. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
