Evening Prayer for June 14

About 2–3 minutes · 7 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things

Today’s takeaway: Do not let worries and riches choke your faith, because your Father knows what you need.

Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap

Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not

Seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. … your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.

Having food and raiment let us be therewith content. … they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

The cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us

Before you pray

What worry kept you from being present with the Lord today?

Prayer

Father, like Martha I have been anxious and troubled about many things. Jesus told us to consider the ravens and the lilies. They do not worry, and You feed and clothe them. Keep me from a doubtful, anxious mind. The cares of this world can choke the word in me. Tonight I lay aside every weight and rest content with what You have given. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
