Evening Prayer for July 30
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
Nicodemus … he that came to Jesus by night
Today’s takeaway: Do not follow Jesus from a distance out of fear, but openly own Him as Lord.
Peter followed him afar off
Among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench
Faith as a grain of mustard seed
God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord
Little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
Whosoever … shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
Before you pray
Were you afraid today to let people know you follow Jesus?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, Nicodemus came to You by night, and Peter followed You from a distance. I have been like them, quiet about You when I should have spoken. Yet You never cast out anyone who comes to You. Forgive my fear of people. Give me courage tomorrow to let someone know I belong to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
