Evening Prayer for January 21
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
Now we call the proud happy
Today’s takeaway: God lives close to the humble, so ask Him tonight to search your heart.
Thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look
Every one that is proud … heart is an abomination to the LORD
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God upon every remembrance of you
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Before you pray
Where did pride sneak into your heart today?
Prayer
Holy God, high and lofty, You dwell with the humble and revive the contrite. The world calls the proud happy, but You call the poor in spirit blessed. I confess the pride that showed up in me today, in my words and my thoughts. Search me and know my heart. Make me lowly, and let me find my rest in Your grace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
