Evening Prayer for January 2
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
Today’s takeaway: Let your evening prayer rise to God like incense, because Jesus always intercedes for you.
Thou shalt make an altar to burn incense upon
And thou shalt put it before the vail that is by the ark of the testimony, before the mercy seat that is over the testimony, where I will meet with thee. And Aaron shall burn thereon sweet incense every morning: … And when Aaron lighteth the lamps at even, he shall burn incense upon it, a perpetual incense before the LORD … throughout your generations.
He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
The smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand.
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
Pray without ceasing.
Before you pray
What did you bring to God in prayer today, and what did you forget to bring?
Prayer
Lord, let my prayer rise before You like incense tonight, and the lifting of my hands like the evening sacrifice. Jesus lives forever to intercede for me, so my small prayers are not lost. Receive them. Make me a person who prays without ceasing, and let me fall asleep still talking to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
