Evening Prayer for December 8
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
The dust return to the earth as it was
Today’s takeaway: Your body will return to dust, but in Christ it will be raised, so rest in hope.
It is sown in corruption; it is … sown in dishonour; … it is sown in weakness; it is … sown a natural body
The first man is of the earth, earthy
Dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.
And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure. They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.
My flesh … shall rest in hope.
Though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God
The Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am.
So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
Before you pray
How can remembering that you are dust help you live wisely?
Prayer
LORD, I am dust, and to dust I will return. What is sown in weakness will be raised in power. The first man is of the earth, but my flesh will rest in hope. The Lord Jesus will change this weak body to be like His glorious body. Teach me to number my days, so that I may apply my heart to wisdom. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
