Evening Prayer for December 24

About 2–3 minutes · 7 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

Then said the princes of the Philistines, What do these Hebrews here?

Today’s takeaway: Live so honestly that no one can rightly speak evil of your faith.

If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, … or as a busybody in other men’s matters.

Let not … your good be evil spoken of

Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

Ye are the temple of the living God; … Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing

Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light

Before you pray

On Christmas Eve, what are you most grateful for?

Prayer

Father, tomorrow we celebrate the birth of Your Son. The Philistines asked what these Hebrews were doing among them, and sometimes the world asks the same of me. I am part of a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, called to show forth Your praises. Let me not be yoked with what pulls me away from You. Tonight I wait with joy for Christmas. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
