Evening Prayer for December 23
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
Today’s takeaway: Eternal life is found in Jesus, so if you have the Son, you have life.
As the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself
As the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.
I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.
I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
No man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
Before you pray
What does it mean to you tonight that your life is hidden with Christ?
Prayer
Father, You have given me eternal life, and this life is in Your Son. My life is hidden with Christ in You. Christmas is almost here, and my days are busy. Tonight let me slow down and remember that the real gift is Jesus Himself. When He appears, I will appear with Him in glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
