Evening Prayer for December 19
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
Today’s takeaway: Jesus the Shepherd carries the weak close to His heart and seeks the lost.
I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: … I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.
We have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities
They brought young children to him
And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant
The Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
Ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
I will feed my flock, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord GOD.
Before you pray
How has the Good Shepherd cared for you this year?
Prayer
Good Shepherd, You feed Your flock and gather the lambs in Your arms. I have gone astray like a lost sheep, but You came to seek and save me. Tonight I am tired. Gather me in Your arms, and make me lie down. It is Your good pleasure to give Your little flock the kingdom. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
