Evening Prayer for December 14

About 2–3 minutes · 9 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

By nature the children of wrath, even as others.

Today’s takeaway: Everyone must be born again, and God's mercy reaches even the worst sinners.

We ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

Job answered the LORD, and said, Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.

The LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

David … to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.

I obtained mercy, … Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious

That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Before you pray

What were you before God's grace found you?

Prayer

Father, by nature I was foolish, disobedient, and deceived. I had to be born again. Job said, I am vile, and David said he was shaped in iniquity. Paul was once a blasphemer and persecutor, yet he obtained mercy. That is my story too. Thank You for Your mercy tonight. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
